Curator — Eastern Roman / Byzantine Collection

Dr. Raffaele D'Amato obtained his PhD in Romano-Byzantine Law in 1993, at the University of Turin. Even working as a jurist, his passion for Ancient and Middle Ages military matters led him to cooperate with several magazines and specialized publications, together with university institutes in active collaboration on related subjects.

Dr. D'Amato has written a number of articles for the Italian magazines Medioevo and Soldatini, as well as the Australian Magazine Varangian Voice, and published two booklets about the Age of Bronze and Dark Ages warriors. He is currently working as an independent collaborator with the Athens University School of Philosophy on projects about arms and armor of the Eastern Roman Army, as well as pursuing a second degree in Byzantine History at the University of Venice.

As a curator of the World Museum of Man, Dr. D'Amato specializes in ancient Western civilization with a special emphasis on Eastern Roman / Byzantine history. Dr. D'Amato brings not only a wealth of experience and knowledge to the World Museum of Man in this concentration of study, but his passion for Byzantine history is without limit.
