JASPER FLAKE TOOL CORE

Type:  Mousterian Flake Tool Core

Material:  Fontmaure Jasper

Period:  Middle Paleolithic Period  80,000 - 40,000 years ago

Provenance:  Fontmaure, West Central France

Measurements:  8.5 cm x 7.7 cm

 


 

Comments:  Core stands up on its own when turned upside down and set upon its flat proximal end which was made from striking off flakes.  Beautiful, natural openings in the jasper nodule with areas of cortex.
