HANDAXE

Type:  Lageniforme (Tongue-shaped) Handaxe

Material:  Quartzite

Period:  Acheulian  500,000 - 200,000 years ago

Provenance:  Northern Sahara Desert

Comments:  See OVERSTREETS "Arrowheads Price Guide 8th Edition" #10, page 1306.  That specimen very similar but at 30.5 cm versus this one at 33!  Massive example with no nicks or damage.  Examples like this defy theories of normal use and ownership of such an impressive example possibly represents a status symbol amongst early humans.
