ACHEULIAN - NORTH AFRICA

KOMBEWA FLAKE HANDAXE

Type:  Handaxe on a Kombewa Flake

Material:  Quartzite

Period:  Middle Acheulian  750,000 - 500,000 years ago

Provenance:  Sahara Desert

Measurements:  13.4 cm x 10.8 cm


Comments:  Classic Kombewa flake fashioned into a triangular handaxe.  The Kombewa flake is known by its "bulb" present on BOTH sides as compared to typical flakes showing only one side with a "bulb of percussion".
